In Episode 121 of the East Bay Yesterday podcast, Liam O’Donoghue interviews historian Caitlin Keliiaa, author of Refusing Settler Domesticity: Native Women’s Labor and Resistance in the Bay Area Outing Program. The “outing” program placed Indigenous girls and young women from other parts of the U.S., trained to do housework in boarding schools, in East Bay homes as domestic servants in the 1920s.

Author Caitlin Keliiaa will give a talk on the subject at the Oakland History Center on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, 6:30 pm, at the Oakland Main Library, 125 14th St.
